Blairsville, Pennsylvania – The Pennsylvania State Police is intensifying its efforts to solve the chilling cold case of Alicia Markovich, a 15-year-old girl who went missing in 1987, CrimeSpace has learned.

Alicia’s disappearance has haunted her family and the community for over three decades, with no substantial leads or breakthroughs in the investigation. As the search for answers continues, authorities are once again appealing to the public for any information that could help bring closure to this enduring mystery.

Alicia Markovich vanished on April 26, 1987, while visiting her father at his residence in the 100 block of Dunn Avenue in Blairsville. The evening took a fateful turn when Alicia and her father engaged in a heated argument about her school grades, friends, and her mother’s request for an increase in child support.

Reportedly upset, Alicia abruptly left her father’s house and never returned. Her father, realizing the severity of the situation, called after her, urging her to return home by 8:00 p.m., assuming she was heading to a friend’s house. However, Alicia never made it back, and her father reported her missing the following day.

Initially classified as a runaway, investigators later shifted their focus to the possibility of foul play. Alicia’s mother vehemently denied the notion that her daughter had run away, emphasizing that Alicia had no history of such behavior and lacked the streetwise skills to survive on her own.

Authorities, too, came to believe that Alicia had likely met a tragic fate, potentially on the same day she disappeared.

Described as a dedicated student and a member of the track team at Windber High School, Alicia’s disappearance left a void in her community.

She was last seen wearing a distinctive ensemble—a white crop top adorned with three colored stripes (red, yellow, and blue), jeans, and white sneakers. Notably, she carried a pair of purple sunglasses but left all other personal belongings behind.

Despite years of investigation, no activity has been detected on Alicia’s bank account or Social Security number since 1987, further fueling suspicions that she met with a tragic end. The case remains unresolved, leaving Alicia’s loved ones yearning for answers and closure.

Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with information about Alicia Markovich’s disappearance to come forward.

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop A – Indiana Station can be reached at (724) 357-1976.

Alternatively, individuals can provide anonymous tips through the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477) or submit information online. It is important to note that all callers to Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest, the resolution of a crime or cold case, or the location of a wanted person, fugitive, or missing individual.

The search for Alicia Markovich continues, as investigators vow to uncover the truth and provide closure to her family and loved ones. The relentless pursuit of justice for this missing teenager serves as a reminder that no case is ever truly closed until the missing are found and the truth is revealed.
