Memphis, TN – In a distressing turn of events, human remains discovered on Thursday night in Memphis are believed to belong to Sequoia Samuels, a 4-year-old who went missing from her family’s residence earlier that same day, according to the Memphis Police Department, CrimeSpace can report.
Sequoia’s mother, Brittany Jackson, and her alleged boyfriend, Jaylon Hobson, have been apprehended and charged in connection with the case.

Facing a series of serious allegations, Jackson has been charged with aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, and filing a false offense report. Hobson, on the other hand, has been charged with filing a false offense report. The Memphis Police Chief, Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis, commented on the developments, stating, “The remains were found in close proximity to the apartment where Sequoia resided with her family; however, a positive identity has not been confirmed at this time. Both individuals have been detained by MPD for these charges at this time.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) reported that Sequoia Samuels was reported missing on Thursday from her home in Memphis’s Uptown area, located just north of downtown. Memphis police described the young girl as being approximately 3 feet tall and having a feeding tube on the left side of her stomach. Surveillance footage from a nearby doorbell camera captured Sequoia walking alone on the neighborhood streets at around 3 a.m. local time.
Authorities were alerted to the situation when Sequoia’s mother contacted the police around 6:30 a.m. after discovering her daughter was missing. At a press conference held on Thursday evening, Memphis Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Louis Brownlee stated that there was no evidence suggesting the child had been kidnapped. MPD Public Information Officer Theresa Carlson also added that there was no indication Sequoia did anything other than wander away.

As the investigation continues, a medical examiner is expected to work diligently to establish the identity of the remains and determine the cause of death. At present, the TBI has not provided any further comments regarding the case.
Anyone who possesses information about this heart-wrenching incident is urged to contact either the Memphis police or the TBI. The authorities are counting on the support and cooperation of the community to bring justice to Sequoia Samuels and her grieving family.
